Laugh a little, why don’t you?

By |2023-02-07T13:35:34+00:00January 23, 2008|business, laughter|Comments Off on Laugh a little, why don’t you?

Let’s face it, business can be tough, but don’t let that get your spirits down. When your enthusiasm falls, your team starts to feel it, too. So learn to laugh a little. Did you know that pre-school children laugh up to 400 times a day? But by adulthood, we laugh a measly 17 times a day, on average. Let’s take a lesson from our children. Think of the funniest thing that’s happened in a long time. Did you smile? That always works for me. Now, make it habit and go out there and have some fun! Do you have a funny story? What makes you laugh? Leave me a comment! For more fun stuff, visit my site.

What is important when times are tough

By |2023-02-07T13:35:38+00:00January 13, 2008|authenticity, economy, housing, passions, real estate|Comments Off on What is important when times are tough

I just returned from the Real Estate Connect conference in New York and there were some very depressing economists there. As you no doubt have surmised, the housing market is in a recession. There is a wave of sadness, despair and fear crashing down on those directly involved in the industry: real estate agents, brokers, lenders and the like. And for good reason. There are 10 month plus inventories in markets across the country. Everyone seems to have stopped buying and selling homes. So, that was the gist of the conference and then I was on a technology panel. My message? Not so much about the next technology killer app - sure there are exciting things appearing daily. But mostly, my message was about getting real. When times are tough it's more important than ever to make sure you still have passion for the business [...]

New year, new you? Or new year, REAL you?

By |2023-02-07T13:35:49+00:00January 4, 2008|authentic, change, genuine, kick-start, Real new year|Comments Off on New year, new you? Or new year, REAL you?

While all the self-help gurus on the morning television shows and such are touting new year resolutions and fixes, will that make a new you, really? Get organized! Get working out! Get on a diet. Get a new wardrobe. A haircut. Get out of debt. All of these are great resolutions, but as most folks will tell you, change happens when your heart is happy. When a choice is genuine. When a choice or New Year's Resolution fits the Real You. So don't panic, don't despair, don't feel guilty when you read or watch something about a new you. You're looking for the Real You to put in your life and business. Visit http://RealYouIncorporated.com for more, or better yet, pre-order the book today for a great kick-start for your new, real year.

It’s almost a new year! Put the Real You in your business in 2008!

By |2023-02-07T13:35:56+00:00December 27, 2007|book, inspiration, new year, new you, Real You Incorporated, realisms|Comments Off on It’s almost a new year! Put the Real You in your business in 2008!

There are many firsts in life: the first day of school, the first day on the job and the first of the year, as in January 1—or New Year’s Day. All of these firsts represent a chance to make a change in your life. Sort of a line in the sand kind of thing. Once, crossed, you can never go back. (Since I love beaches, I always try to work in the sand analogy, fyi.) Anyway, back to the opportunity of a New Year. Make 2008 exactly the way you imagined it for yourself and your business – or the one you’re about to begin even while toiling away for someone else. Because when it comes to running a business, turning over the calendar to a new year often means taking a closer look at what’s working and what’s not. Depending on your situation, it [...]

The waiting game . . .

By |2023-02-07T13:42:03+00:00December 24, 2007|book, Christmas, kids, Real You Incorporated, women|Comments Off on The waiting game . . .

In the last post I wrote about what it's like to write a book. It was an amazing process. For more, check that post. What stage am I in now? The big waiting stage. Since submitting my final galley proofs to Wiley, my publisher, I'm pretty much on hold until Real You Incorporated http://realyouincorporated.com/ is out in mid-February. My publisher is busy, though. They are doing all of the work of producing the book, and told me it should ship from the warehouse in New Jersey on January 25th. From there, booksellers who have ordered copies of the book should find it arriving in their stores. Online retailers - amazon.com, borders.com, bn.com, and booksamillion.com, could receive copies sooner. Hopefully, your favorite online and/or real world bookstore will have the book available February 15th. It's also being distributed to Canada, the UK and Singapore, which I [...]

It's important to make time for yourself, because your future starts now. As you are eagerly awaiting the launch of Real You Incorporated available for pre-order online now and in stores February 15th, consider grabbing a favorite book from your past and just relax. One of my personal book treasures is Gift From the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. What's yours? Pick it up, relax your mind and get inspired. Inspiration is key to the best New Year ever. What’s it like to write a book?

By |2023-02-07T13:42:21+00:00December 21, 2007|Uncategorized|Comments Off on What’s it like to write a book?

That's the biggest question I've been asked lately, and with the book now in production with the publishing folks at Wiley, my answer is a lot different than what I would've said all last year! Writing a book is tough. It's time consuming. Start with the pitch. For business books, you need a compelling proposal. It's almost like writing your book because all of the thoughts and content need a map and gameplan. I'd say that was the toughest part, really. I knew what I was passionate about: the power of women in business and otherwise. I'd also just spent the past five years building what's one of the fastest-growing, progressive brand in real estate: Real Living. And, I knew my personal story as a brand marketer, a writer and woman in business for the last 25 plus years. There was a lot to say! [...]

Have you read the book Queen Bees and Wannabes?

By |2023-02-07T13:42:25+00:00June 6, 2007|Uncategorized|Comments Off on Have you read the book Queen Bees and Wannabes?

You really should, even if you don't have a daughter - yet. The book describes in perfect detail how we women became socialized the way we did. It's by surviving middle school. My daughter graduates 8th grade tomorrow. I'm more than relieved. These middle school years are viscious. You know it, since you lived it, but until you witness it through your daughter's eyes again you can block it all out. The bullies. The peer pressure. The unbelievable social structure that permeates every act, thought, word and deed. It's enough to make you want to homeschool. But all of these middle school tests do make you stronger, if you survive it. We women learn as girls how to undermine, undercut, undervalue, undereat and otherwise UNDER appreciate everyone except those in our own cliques. We also, conversely, learn the value of true friends and the art [...]

“It’s really important that, as women, we tell our stories.

By |2023-02-07T13:42:26+00:00May 30, 2007|Uncategorized|Comments Off on “It’s really important that, as women, we tell our stories.

That is what helps seed our imaginations."- Ann Bancroft That quote got me thinking about the power of women and blogging. Really. We are the world's storytellers, even if we had to publish under a male pseudonym in the 18th century. You remember that, right? I set up a Google alert to discover other women bloggers who are talking to the world and empowering women, either by pointing out obvious sexism in the traditional mainstream media or by praising random acts of kindness done by and for women around the world. There is strength in numbers and the third wave will prove that both economically and numerically. On the Today Show this morning Marlo Thomas did a piece on third wave women entrepreneurs. The Flying Nun turned St. Judes spokeswoman turned broadcast journalist spreading the good word about women in business. Times they are a [...]
